History

The Department of Computer Science is located in two venues, one of which is in the "Polo Didattico e di Ricerca" in Crema.

The "Polo Didattico e di Ricerca" is the result of a project started in 1987 when the Municipality of Crema and the Province of Cremona asked the University of Milano for the activation of a degree course in computer science in Crema.

The first degree course in computer science started in Crema in the academic year 1995-96 in a temporary site. One year later, on December 12th 1996, the "Polo Didattico e di Ricerca" was officially inaugurated in the buildings previously taken by Olivetti SpA.

The Department of Information Technology was established on January 1st 2001, originating from a section of the Department of Computer Science of the University of Milano.

Since April 26, 2012, the three departments of informatics at the Università degli Studi di Milano (Computer Science, Information Technology, Informatics and Communication) are merged into the Department of Computer Science with venues in Milan and Crema.

Today the Crema Campus hosts five degree courses (three at the first level and two at the second level) and its faculty staff includes 23 professors actively developing their research interests in various fields of computer science. The teaching staff is enriched by the collaboration of several external teachers coming from both the academy and from hi-tech industrial companies. The Crema Campus currently hosts about 15 doctorate students and research fellows in its laboratories.
